MITAS 4 ISLANDS MTB STAGE RACE – DAY 2
The elements played a crucial role in day 2 of the Mitas 4 islands mtb stage race. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the race stayed on the island of Krk, where the 4 islands team spent the night setting up an alternative route. A route as demanding and well thought out as the one that was supposed to be driven on the island of Rab. It was a gruesome task, a challenge that the team took on wholeheartedly. A logistical mountain that was conquered by team work and camaraderie. Staples of the 4 islands mtb stage race.
Same time, same place, second day. The riders headed out from Baška, 65 km, leg, 1250m climb, and even more wind to their chest then day 1. The changed direction of the newly planned out trail was in favour of the wind. Since the riders got to know the trails during day 1 they know how to strategise their rides and find a balance between riding hard and stopping to enjoy the breathtaking view. 16 kilometres from the finish line a steep climb from Vrbnik to the moon surface was the last effort of day 2.
Around the second feed zone we have witness a strong competition between 5 teams in men category who have won the previous stage, racing with each other in about few seconds distance. At the end the victory of 2nd stage went to Mitas Superior team, but that hasn’t influenced the overall results after 2 stages, Kellys Bikeranch team is still leading their way. Czechs are proven to be one of the best mountain bikers – they have conquer 3 winning places in the most numerous men category. In other categories the winners of the 1st stage maintained their time advantage and confirmed their leading position.
Tomorrow riders will hit the longest stage where unpredictable can happen.
