In 2018, MITAS 4 Islands MTB Stage Race will be a part of the UCI (Union Cycliste International) regulation.
Adding 4 Islands to the UCI’s calendar serves as a recognition of the world’s bicycle federation, up to the efforts both of organizers and local communities s to develop one of the most attractive mountain-biking stage races in the world and place it on four Croatian islands.
The Mitas 4 Islands MTB Stage Race is held since 2015 with numbers growing yearly up to nearly 600 bikers from 38 countries racing in 2017. It is a unique race in the world of mountain-biking for each stage is organized on the separate island, so participants have a chance to race on 4 different islands in 4 days and 4 stages. The total height difference is approximately 5,000 meters and the total length of the race is about 270 km.
To become a part of the UCI was certainly one of long term goals for us from the start, but we didn’t even think of applying until we make sure that the organization part is up to the elite standard. Nearly 600 registered competitors in last year’s sold out race proved us we are finally ready. So, being a part of UCI calendar is a great acknowledgment for our race and a motivation to make it even better in the coming years – said Hrvoje Šepić on behalf of the organizer.
